OUR GOALOur Bees are disappearing. We're changing that. |
First Let'sDiscover
In 1852 Lorenzo Langstroth patented a bee hive design that would revolutionise the honey bee industry. He discovered that a bee space of 3/8 inch was needed in a hive to limit the bees from building comb in the wall spaces.
The hive was then constructed so the frames of comb could be removed for disease inspection and safe removal of honey |
Now let's WORKConserve
There are 25,000 species of bees in the world, in australia we have around 1500 species most are solitary only 10 species of Australian bees are social bees that are stingless and living communal in hives.
European Honey bees (Apis mellifera)were introduced into Australia in 1822. Our Bees are in decline at risk from pesticides and disease. Our aim is to provide awareness and education in the management of this wonderful insect called Anthophila |
